Learn 2 Ride and Beyond
SABA is developing a series of Learn to Ride classes for people who want to learn how to cycle. Please email learn2ride@sacbike.org if you are interested in any of the classes below.
Level 1: Learn the basics of cycling so you can go on rides with family or friends. Join experienced League Cycling Instructors for a 1½ hour class where you will learn to balance and glide, use power pedal for a strong takeoff, and soon…pedaling success. Basic mastery: ride in a straight line, controlled stop, and ride briefly with just right hand will qualify you to take the next level.
Level 2: For those who know how to ride but would like to advance their skills. In this 1½ hour class you will learn to scan and signal to change lane positions, how to go through an intersection correctly (straight, left and right turns), how to change gears for riding efficiency. Basic mastery will qualify you to go on a trail or low-density street ride for the second half of class which will include tips for group riding and trail etiquette.
Level 3: Build your skills and confidence on a 1½ hour street ride. Practice lane positioning, scanning, signaling and merging, riding through intersections, group riding skills, and safe cycling practices on different types of streets.
In the meantime, you can watch some videos that show how the class is taught.
